Wearable Architecture

Translating Architect’s forms into Fashion

In this project I took inspiration from David Hockney’s paintings of the pool and Halston’s drapings. I wanted to develop a wearable piece that was influenced by the same ideas and theories that Hockney also took reference from. In particular, the season of Summer and Water. I split the dress into 3 key elements; the sand, the water and the wave. Through working with the fabric I tried to manipulate it so that the three sections came to life in different parts of the project. It was important for me to showcase it’s flow and movement to relate it back to the influence of the water.

The design of the dress is inspired by my main hobby which is ballet. After doing a lot of research on ballet itself and the fashion designers associated with it, I decided to implement its key elements and features into my own design. The top part of the dress is made out of raw silk, velvet and black cotton ribbons. The bottom part is made out of the tulle, chiffon and raw silk. This is the final version of the dress.
