Ergonomic Chair
Using the Human Body as a tool of measurement for Form
This project looked to develop a chair that had a direct relationship to one’s body profile. I worked off the yearning for comfort. I wanted to design a chair/bench which is seemingly molded to a person’s body to attain the most comfortable sitting position. I started by taking a series of photos exemplifying how a person sits and moves in a chair and then overlaid them over each other, achieving a chronophotographic look into a person’s motion and different positions while sitting in a chair. This allowed me to create a chair which could house an ideal position for various postures. I proceeded by tracing the body in the chair so that it molds to the posture. Overlaying these sketches gave me an idea of how the bench would come together. To visualize the idea, I made a model out of foam board more focused on a person’s body in the chair.
